Everything you need to know about the Pomeranian breed

Pomeranian puppies are one of the most beautiful breeds of dogs out there. They have a face that resembles a fox and are born with a pair of dark and alert eyes, not to mention a thick fur and an equally furry tail. They are also one of the smallest breeds and only reach a size of 8-11 inches throughout their entire life. As such, they are also referred to as toy dogs.

About Them

It is said that these Pomeranians are ancestors to the Chow-Chow, the Samoyed and also the German Spitz, all of which are members of the 'Toy' dog groups. It was way back in the early 1800's when the British decided to breed their dogs to a size that was more manageable and thus the rise in popularity of these dog breeds.

Generally speaking, a Pomeranian resembles a baby fox and has a head that is shaped like an inverted triangle. They are also gifted with a dark nose, dark eyes and a thickly furred coat. Till today, Pomeranians are still being bred to an even smaller size and have thus managed to develop a face that is doll shaped and covered in powder.

Their personality is very vibrant and often tends to be more than enough for a single person to handle. They are easily excitable, are vivacious and demanding and also require a high amount of maintenance. As such, they are not appropriate for households which have infants or small children. This is because they tend to snap back angrily at children who annoy them in any way.

Caring and Grooming

Taking care of your little friend is very important and something you should know a bit about before buying it in the first place. As mentioned before, it is a high maintenance breed, and as such, you will have to keep yourself prepared if you are to make sure that your pet is kept in tip-top shape.
·         Knowing the history of the dog before buying it is something you must do in order to know how to take care of it. Such knowledge will help you educate yourself about the different characteristics, needs and health issues with your pet in the present or in the future.

·      Pomeranian puppies are also very sensitive to training due to their high intelligence. Once engaged by their owners, they tend to respond more quickly than any other breed out there. Their tendency of barking loudly and getting underfoot is something which should be trained for first.

·         These little balls of fur have two layers of it and a soft overcoat as well underneath as well. Thus, you will need to brush their coat on a regular basis if you want your pet to maintain its high beauty standard.

·         Also, this breed has a lot of dental issues. All the Pomeranian breeders will be able to tell you that. This is why brushing their teeth daily is a must. And getting it to stay still while brushing is as tough a task as any.

·         You should also be prepared to exercise your little pooch because they need it. This is because they are the kind of breed who loves to flex their muscles from time to time. Read some puppy care tips before buying them.

Training

When it comes to training a Pomeranian, you will find yourself very busy. Not only that, but you will also find yourself having a hell lot of fun. This is mainly because of the fact that these dogs are extremely fast to catch up and also very enthusiastic when it comes to learning. All you need to have is a bit of patience and commitment.

·         Starting Early:

Ideally speaking, a Pomeranian dog needs to start its training between the ages of 8-14 weeks. It is the most receptive during this period of time and as such will respond to your commands far better. Any habit you set and any schedule you make for your dog, this is the time to get it accustomed.

·         House Training:

It is very important that you house train your dog so as to avoid any sort of incidents inside the house. That includes urination and defecating as well. If it happens, do not get upset because it is bound to take place towards the beginning.

·         Socializing:

Socialising a Pomeranian dog at an early age is very important because, by nature, they tend to be very unsociable from the very beginning. If handled properly, they can become very friendly. However, care must be taken early on in order to achieve that.

To Conclude

So when it comes to dealing with Pomeranians that is pretty much everything you should be aware of. Maintain a pet is always a hard task. However, dealing with this little devil is quite another.
